Why I love Maternity Photography

I'm currently working with an amazing mentor and she set me the challenge of writing about 3 of my favourite images.  I work with so many amazing women and families that it has been almost impossible to narrow it down. Every image tells a story and that is why I do what I do. However, in order to narrow it down, this post will just be for maternity photography. Be on the look out for the next post about my favorite family photography sessions.

This is one of my all time favorite maternity photographs. This Mama totally rocked the session and the lighting was absolutely stunning. This image started my love affair with backlit sunset portraits. The warm saturated glow at this time of day, just looks visually stunning and really highlights that inner beauty that all moms-to-be have.

This is a more recent maternity session and a new location, which I absolutely adored! The wetland grass provided a gorgeous warm glow as a background and really gave the natural earth mother feel this Mama wanted. I really enjoy the perspective the boardwalk provides and the kiss of light on Mom's bump was perfect! Can you believe this Mom made that beautiful flower crown, and I think it really added to the hippy Mom vibe that we wanted to achieve.

Not every session comes with guaranteed sunshine, especially in Seattle. Despite the grey day, I absolutely fell in love with this image. The grey palette, although so different from the other images, lends a simplicity that I think resonates with the inner feelings and connection of mother and baby. There is almost a sense that Mom in a place of complete peace and calm, connecting with her baby. This Mama was truly amazing getting in the Lake in February, but it was worth it to capture this moment.

If you are thinking about a maternity photography session I would love to talk with you and help create images you will love for a lifetime
